Patio Covers for Round Rock Backyards

Round Rock backyards have a specific problem: most of the city was built in the late 1990s through the 2010s with small builder patios, two-story homes that throw very little afternoon shade, and lots that face every direction. In Teravista, Forest Creek, Behrens Ranch, Paloma Lake, Siena and the neighborhoods around Old Settlers Park, a 10-by-10 slab off the back door is the norm, and it’s unusable from 3 p.m. to dark for half the year.

The fix is a cover sized to how you actually live, not to the slab you were handed. We routinely extend the concrete, build an insulated aluminum cover that spans the width of the house, add fans and lights, and screen it if mosquitoes off Brushy Creek are the issue. Two-story homes usually allow an attached cover under the second-floor windows; where they don’t, we build freestanding.

Round Rock HOAs are active. Most require architectural approval with drawings and material samples before construction, and the City of Round Rock requires a building permit for attached structures. We’ve submitted to most of the associations in town and know what each one wants to see.

Permits and HOA Approval in Round Rock

Every attached cover here needs a permit and most neighborhoods need HOA approval. We handle both.

The City of Round Rock requires a building permit for attached patio covers and for freestanding structures above a certain size, along with engineering for the structure. HOAs in Teravista, Forest Creek, Behrens Ranch, Paloma Lake and most other Round Rock neighborhoods require architectural committee approval, typically with a site plan, elevation drawings and material and color samples.

We prepare all of it: drawings your committee can read, engineering stamped for the city, and the submission itself. Approval timelines vary from a week to a month depending on the association’s meeting schedule; we tell you what to expect for yours.

Round Rock Patio Cover FAQ

Do you build in all of Round Rock?

Yes, from Old Town to Teravista and out to Paloma Lake. We’re about 25 minutes from most of Round Rock and on-site here every week.

My HOA is strict. Will a patio cover get approved?

Almost always, when the design matches the house. Committees reject metal kits and mismatched colors, not well-designed covers with matching rooflines and finishes. We design for approval and prepare the submission.

Can you attach a cover to a two-story house?

Usually, yes, below the second-floor windows with proper flashing. Where the layout doesn’t allow it, a freestanding insulated cover gives the same shade.

Do I need a permit in Round Rock?

For an attached cover, yes, with engineering. We pull it. Freestanding structures may be exempt below a size threshold; we check your specific case.

How long from consultation to finished cover?

Design and quote within days. HOA and permit typically two to five weeks in Round Rock. Installation two to four days for an aluminum cover once materials arrive.
