How a Louvered Roof Works
One remote, three roofs.
Interlocking aluminum louvers pivot up to about 170 degrees on a motorized shaft. Fully open, you have sky and full airflow. Angled, you block the sun while keeping the breeze. Closed, the louvers seal and water is channeled to integrated gutters in the beams and down the posts. Add a rain sensor and the roof closes itself when the first drops hit.

Is a Louvered Roof Worth It?
It costs more than a fixed cover. Here’s how to decide.
If your patio faces west or south and you want to use it in both January and July, a louvered roof earns its price: it’s the only structure that gives you sun when you want it and shelter when you don’t. If your patio is shaded most of the day, or you simply want maximum shade at the lowest cost, an insulated aluminum cover is the smarter spend. How much does a louvered pergola cost?
Louvered systems are typically two to three times the price of a fixed aluminum cover of the same size, with electrical, screens and lighting adding to that. We quote a fixed price after measuring.
Is it watertight when closed?
When closed the louvers interlock and channel water to gutters built into the beams and down through the posts. In heavy wind-driven rain some spray can enter at the edges, as with any open-sided structure.
What happens if the power goes out?
The louvers stay in their last position. Most systems have a manual override, and some offer battery backup. Rain sensors close the roof automatically before a storm when power is on.
What maintenance does it need?
Very little: rinse the louvers and clear the gutters a couple of times a year. No painting or sealing. Motors and controls carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
Do louvered pergolas need permits and HOA approval?
Attached systems need a permit and engineering; HOAs typically require approval. Many HOAs like louvered systems because of the clean look. We handle the submissions.
