Hail Is Why Austin Buys Carports

One spring storm can cost more in vehicle damage than the carport that would have prevented it.

Central Texas hail season runs roughly March through June, and a dented hood, cracked windshield or totaled truck is a real risk for anything parked outside. A carport also keeps interiors from cooking in summer and keeps the car dry in winter. It’s one of the few backyard structures that pays for itself in avoided damage.

We build carports the way we build patio covers: engineered, permitted where required, tied into the house with proper flashing or freestanding on real footings, and finished to match the home so it adds to the street view instead of hurting it.

  • Freestanding for side yards and driveways
  • Insulated aluminum, or wood with a shingled roof
  • RV and boat heights
  • Lighting and outlets for EV charging
  • Storage and enclosed sides available

Extra height and clear span for motorhomes, fifth wheels and boats.

Wood carports

Cedar posts and beams with a roof matched to the house.

HOA-Friendly Carports

Many HOAs restrict carports. The ones we build usually get approved.

The carports HOAs object to are metal kits that don’t match anything. A carport with the same roof pitch, shingles or panel finish and column style as the house reads as part of the home, and that’s what architectural committees approve. We prepare the drawings and submission for you. More on permits and HOA.

Carport FAQ

How much does a custom carport cost in Austin?

More than a kit, less than a garage. Size, attachment, material and electrical drive the price. We quote a fixed number after measuring.

Do I need a permit for a carport?

Attached carports and most freestanding ones above a certain size need a permit in Austin and surrounding cities. Setback rules from property lines also apply. We check your address and handle it.

Will my HOA allow a carport?

Many HOAs allow carports that match the home and are placed appropriately. We design for approval and prepare the submission.

Can a carport protect against hail?

An insulated aluminum roof or a shingled wood roof stops hail from reaching your vehicle. Open sides mean wind-driven hail can occasionally reach the edges; enclosed sides solve that.

Can you add an EV charger?

Yes. We coordinate a dedicated circuit and outlet or charger mount during construction.
