Most builder patios are small, and homeowners want the cover to reach farther than the concrete does. We design the slab or deck to the footprint of the cover, place footings where the posts will go, slope it for drainage away from the house and finish it in the material you want, all in the same project as the structure.

Drainage Is the Whole Game
A patio that slopes toward the house is a foundation problem waiting to happen.
We set slabs to drain away from the house, add drains where the yard traps water and make sure the cover’s downspouts discharge somewhere sensible. On clay soils common around Austin we reinforce and use proper base depth so the slab moves as little as possible. Boring details that decide whether the patio looks the same in ten years.

Can you extend my existing patio?
Yes. We tie the new slab to the old with proper joints and match the finish as closely as possible, or resurface both for a uniform look.
Stamped concrete or pavers?
Stamped concrete is generally less expensive and seamless; pavers cost more but individual pieces can be replaced and they handle soil movement better. Both work well under covers.
How thick should a patio slab be?
Typically four inches reinforced for a patio, thicker at footings for posts and for driveways and carports. We size it to the structure and the soil.
How soon can you build the cover after pouring?
Footings and slabs need to cure before posts go up, usually about a week. We schedule the structure accordingly.
Do concrete patios need permits?
Flatwork alone often does not, but footings for a permitted structure are inspected as part of that permit. Impervious cover limits apply in Austin; we check your lot.
